BS9 Mini-Sode: Deep Space Nine/Lower Decks Crossover!
Saturday Oct 01, 2022
Saturday Oct 01, 2022
Special mini-sode: Carl enjoyed the DS9/LD crossover "Hear All, Trust Nothing" this week, but he doesn't know anything about "Lower Decks." That is where guests Ames and Jake come in. Join us for a brief talk about what worked and what didn't, and what was normal for this show and what wasn't. Also, Carl is moved by a sick display of kissing and phasering, Ames shares her guidelines for when reference humor does and doesn't work, and Jake compares Armin Shimerman's performance to some of his earlier work as a voice actor.

Caitlin and Chris return for one of our most reflective episodes. How do Garak and Leoben use lies, and what happens when you stare at a monster? Also, Carl giggles at the mere mention of the Harlan Ellison first draft of “City on the Edge of Forever,” Chris finds Enabrin Tain in a surprising place, and Caitlin makes a room service joke that I should probably mention is from “Johnny Mnemonic.”

BattleSpace Nine
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was ignored in the 90s but appreciated today. The re-imagined Battlestar Galactica was the sci-fi event of the 2000s but rarely talked about today. But how do they hold up now?
Each week join a bunch of geeks with theater and storytelling backgrounds as we pair up an episode of BSG with an episode of DS9 on a similar theme. Both these shows are concerned with power, culture clashes, the effects of history, gender equality, and fascinating characters, but in some other ways they are complete opposites.
Enjoy Carl and guests' attempts to reckon with the huge worlds that Ronald D. Moore hath wrought.
